Steven Day has enjoyed 30 years’ experience in journalism, communications, brand marketing and management.

He is a co-founder of Pure Planet, a sustainable, renewable energy supplier to the British market, where he looks after marketing.

He’s recently completed a master’s degree in sustainability leadership at the University of Cambridge’s Institute for Sustainability Leadership, and has a BA degree in religion and sociology from the University of Surrey,

Steven’s began his career as a journalist in 1988 working in magazines before moving to Fleet Street to work for the Daily and Sunday Express as a business reporter. He ended his time in journalism as Deputy Editor of the Sunday Express.

He went on to join the Virgin Group in 1999 to work on a start-up - Virgin Mobile, which grew to become the world’s most successful virtual network operator. As Corporate Affairs Director on the company’s management team he led the communications and the corporate responsibility teams, as well as investor relations during the company’s listing on the London Stock Exchange and subsequent sale to ntl, when the business became Virgin Media. 

Steven moved to join the management of Orange, where he helped the company complete Europe’s biggest-ever mobile merger with T-Mobile. As Chief of Brand & Communications he created and launched the company’s new digital brand, EE, in 2012.

With a group of friends he’d worked with since Virgin, Steven launched Pure Planet in 2017 with the aim of making renewable energy affordable, digitally accessible, and the de facto choice for mainstream consumers. It is Britain’s first app-based renewable energy supplier.

Steven has served as a trustee of Unicef since 2014.

He lives in the Wiltshire countryside with his partner Suzanne and their two children.
