Dr. Wale Aboyade

Dr Wale Aboyade is Managing Director for Africa Programs at the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) where he oversees a growing portfolio of catalytic investments and technical assistance programs aimed at accelerating energy access in Africa. He has over 20 years’ experience in developing and implementing clean energy and infrastructure projects from various perspectives; as engineer, consultant, academic, policy advisor, developer, investor and development practitioner.

Before joining GEAPP, Wale led USAID’s energy and infrastructure portfolio for southern Africa countries where he was responsible for deploying and managing more $100 million in development assistance towards energy sector reform and scaling of energy and water infrastructure projects. Prior to that, he was the head of South Africa’s Climate Innovation Center, the country’s leading cleantech incubator. He is also the cofounder of Protergia Energy Nigeria, a leading distributed renewable energy company in West Africa.

Wale has a honour’s degree in Civil Engineering from Nigeria, a master’s degree in Environmental and Sustainability Science from Lund University, Sweden, and a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Stellenbosch University, South Africa.
